DAY 1: ARRIVAL IN ALBANIA – TIRANA (17 KM)
All guests will be picked up at Tirana airport and we will drive to the hotel. You will have time to freshen up before a meeting in the hotel lobby. Our walking tour starts from Skanderbeg Square and National Museum. Then you continue to see other important buildings: Palace of Culture, Opera House, National Library, Mosque of Ethem Bey, the Clock Tower, Tirana Castle, Parliament, Ura e Tabakeve, National Art Gallery, mean government buildings, catholic and orthodox cathedrals, the Pyramid, Prime Minister building, Palace of congresses, Mother Teresa Square, Presidential palace, Ex-Blloku (which used to be the most beautiful and protected zone were the ex-communist leaders’ families lived). Visit the Cold War corner (one Bunker, part of famous Spac Political Prison, and a piece from Berlin Wall). The tour continues with a welcome dinner. After dinner you will go for a drink and enjoy the night life which is filled with the sounds and sight of the Tirana friendly people singing and playing. Overnight in Tirana.
DAY 2: TIRANA – POGRADEC (150 KM)
After breakfast buffet at the hotel, we will drive to Pogradec. The city of Pogradec was built on the southwestern shores of Lake Ohrid and is one of the most notable cities of Albania for its tradition in hosting “family tourism” and for the pleasant, fresh climate during the summer season. The most visited tourist spots around Lake Ohrid are Lin, Pojskë, Hudenisht and Tushemisht. Worth visiting are the Drilon water sources, located 5 km from Pogradec. Then we will seat to the wonderful restaurants in the area, constructed from wood and offering some of the most delicious dishes of the region, the Koran fish specialty (Tavë Korani) which order also the queen Elisabeth II of United Kingdom. Overnight in Pogradec.
DAY 3: POGRADEC – KORCA – PERMET (170 km)
Albanian traditional breakfast will be served in hotel near the lake with the wonderful view and the fresh eggs, milk, honey and a lot of fresh and bio fruits of Pogradec. A morning lecture / power point presentation will discuss the region’s growing seasons, the kinds of food grown in Pogradec. Then you will drive for 1-hour drive to the city of Korca. The city of Korca is known for its typical quarters, composed of low houses and villas, which are paved with cobblestone. The city of Korça has a range of museums such as the Education Museum (located in the building where the first Albanian school opened in 1887), the renewed National Museum of Medieval Art (to visit absolutely), the Prehistoric Museum, the House-Museum of the famous landscape painter, Vangjush Mio, the Museum of the Oriental Art “Bratko”, Gjon Mili Photography Museum etc. In the vicinity of the city is the cemetery of French soldiers fallen during the First World War. For lunch stop at a local restaurant featuring fresh local foods. It is even better when everything is accompanied with homemade wine. After lunch, drive through the country side and landscape, before arriving to Permet. Overnight in Permet.
DAY 4: PERMET – GJIROKASTRA (UNESCO) (65 KM)
After breakfast you will visit to Permet and visit the thermal springs of Benje for a sunbath. For lunch stop 4 kilometers from the springs. Head to Gjirokaster, 2nd UNESCO Site. You will visit the castle and the house of the dictator Enver Hoxha. Dinner will be in a traditional restaurant located in the center. The traditional Albanian tea, mountain tea and the local music will be take place after dinner at the center. Overnight in Gjirokastra.
DAY 5: GJIROKASTRA (UNESCO) – BLUE EYE – BUTRINT (UNESCO) – SARANDA (110 KM)
You will be leaving from Gjirokastra after eating breakfast and you will arrive at the blue aye and take a walking tour at this charming water spring. The Blue Eye is a water spring and natural phenomenon occurring near Saranda. A popular tourist attraction, the clear blue water of the river bubbles forth from a stunning, more than fifty-meter-deep pool. Divers have descended to fifty meters, but it is still unclear what the actual depth of the karst hole is. Then will drive to visit Butrint National Park, the ancient Buthrotum a port from Hellenistic to Ottoman time, 3rd UNESCO Site. Lunch is in the best beach in Albania, the beach of Ksamil. Then we drive to Saranda. Saranda one of most charming towns of the Albanian Riviera. Saranda is well connected with cruisers that come from all over the world and Corfu (the Greek town in front of Saranda) , during summer is mostly full of tourists from Nordic or Eastern Europe countries for its climate , food and beauty. Dinner and after checking at the hotel. Tonight, you will have a wonderful fish dinner at the restaurant near the sea. Overnight in Saranda.
DAY 6: SARANDA – HIMARA (55 KM)
After breakfast we will travel to one of the most beautiful Albanian beaches, Himara beach. Eat lunch in one quaint home style restaurant in which you can try the fresh fish and seafood, and the extra virgin olive oil. After lunch you will have free time to wonder the streets to look in the shops, rest in a coffee shop, and try some delicious ice cream in the small center of Himara. Albania’s rugged coastline, with traditional villages nestled in isolated bays and golden beaches lapped by turquoise waters, was a revelation when travelers first started discovering the country during the turn of the century. Since then, Europe’s last untouched beaches have changed almost beyond recognition, but there’s still plenty of reason to come here and explore this magnificent coastline where the Adriatic and Ionian seas meet. The dinner will be back at the hotel near the beach with the wonderful view of the sea. Overnight in Himara.
DAY 7: HIMARA – VLORA – BERAT (UNESCO) (155 KM)
After breakfast, you will visit the national park of Llogara, make a walking tour, and see the wonderful view from the mountain to the sea. For lunch you will try the fresh lamb meat, some Albanian typical vegetables food, and one of the best pies in Albania. After lunch, drive to Berat but first we will stop in Vlora city. Vlora is an old city founded in the sixth century B.C., originally known by the name Aulona. Vlora is situated in a beautiful location, in the front of the Karaburun peninsula and Sazan Island and surrounded by beaches and rocky sand. The city carries historical importance to Albania as it hosted the First National Assembly, which declared the country’s independence from Ottoman rule on November 28th, 1912. Then we will drive to Berat, 4th UNESCO site also named city of thousand windows. We will start our tour with the castle area. Visiting the ‘Castle’ involves a steep walk up a cobbled path, but those who make it to the top will be rewarded with a fine view of the surrounding area. You will visit the Museum of Iconography ‘Onufri’ which bears the name of the renowned fresco and icon-painter Onufri, who has left a rich inheritance. This museum is located within the cathedral of St. Mary’s Assumption. We will also visit the Red Mosque, recognized by its lonely minaret and St. Trinity Church. After the fortress you will visit the Mangalemi quarter and the National Ethnographic Museum. Dinner in the hotel where you can try the typical and delicious food of Berat. The hotel shows the local architecture of Berat which saved in years his characteristics with big windows and the wood ceiling. Overnight in Berat.
DAY 8: BERAT (UNESCO) – TIRANA AIRPORT (125 KM)
After breakfast all guest will be driven to Tirana airport for to their connecting flights. End of our service.
